Most of the cheaper brands are thin, somewhat naturally homogenized, and have a chemical additive "to preserve freshness." Some of the more expensive brands in my local store are much thicker but have a slightly "off" smell and taste, and most still have potassium metabisulfate. I ordered the Natural Value Organic from Amazon because I didn't want the additive. This is the freshest, best stuff I've seen, and cheaper than the so-so high-priced brands. It is cleanly separated in the can, with the solids (you can scoop it like ice cream) on top and the water below. I scrape the contents into a blender, add a little filtered water, and blend for five seconds to homogenize. Great. Basically, you can get butter, cream, or milk out of this can to use instead of dairy products if you're looking to avoid caseins, drugs, natural and synthetic hormones. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful Best tasting so far!, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Natural Value Organic Coconut Milk, 14 Ounce Cans (Pack of 12) (Grocery) The contents are very thick about 2/3's of the can and the bottom 1/3 is mostly liquid, so you do need to dump and scrape the entire can and stir it a few times. My comparison for flavor and quality is to Thai Kitchen which is the brand I used to buy mainly because of its availability. The difference is night and day. It appears AMAZON as a seller is no longer carrying this product, so I will try the organic version of Roland's brand next as it has many positive reviews as well. I paid around a dollar sixty per can which was quite a deal for this organic quality. Roland brand is currently about two dollars per can. Honestly this brand is so creamy and tasty that I use it in many things to replace milk and especially when baking Dr. Oetker's muffins. My cats enjoy it as a special treat.
